Course Information
Description	Individual instruction in voice, instrument, composition, or conducting.
Prerequisites	None
Learning Outcomes	1. The student will perform with improved vocal technique while displaying a proficient understanding of vocal health and proper use (PSLO 1 and 2). 2. The student will develop careful attention to detail - correct notes, rhythms, dynamics, and articulation. (PSLO 1 and 2). 3. The student will pay attention to appropriate style, phrasing, tone production, and interpretive nuances. (PSLO 1 and 2). 4. The student will master three to five memorized pieces. (PSLO 1 and 2). 5. The student will exhibit proper practice methods, focusing on refined posture, proper breathing, and efficient use of the musculoskeletal system. ( PSLO 1 and 2.) 6. The student will perform in a jury and/or recital, individual and/or, ensemble (PSLO 2 and 4). 7. The student will perform a variety of music literature, including at least one foreign language piece. (PSLO 2). 8. The student will demonstrate basic proficiency in diction and articulation appropriate to the level of study. (PSLO 1 and 2). 9. The student will memorize multiple songs, arias, and/or ensembles appropriate to private voice study. (PSLO 1, 2, and 4). 10. The student will demonstrate performing skills of a variety of basic to intermediate literature in a jury or other venue as assigned. (PSLO 2, 4). 11. The student will demonstrate basic to intermediate musicality through expressive singing (PSLO 2). 12. The student will perform music from various cultures and historical periods. (PSLO 2 and 5). 13. The student will demonstrate basic ethical professionalism with lesson attendance, rehearsals, and performances( PSLO 4 and 6).
Core Objectives	Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral, and visual communication. * Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts, and constructing solutions. * Personal Responsibility: Students will demonstrate the ability to connect choices, actions, and consequences to ethical decision-making. Social Responsibility: Students will demonstrate intercultural competency and civic knowledge by engaging effectively in local, regional, national and/or global communities.
Program Student Learning Outcomes	1.Students will demonstrate proficiency in vocal technique music from Commercial, Classical, and Broadway repertoire. (PSLO 2) 2. Students will develop a professional, disciplined approach to performance skills. (PSLO 2,3,4,5) 3. Students will present a juried performance for faculty. In lieu of juries, the student, with authorization of the instructor, will present a video that demonstrates the students' vocal development during the semester. (PSLO 2,3,4,5) 4. Students will demonstrate comprehension of content-area reading material. Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material related to vocal technique and repertoire; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading. (PSLO 1)
Textbooks	Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer. Printed sheet music, and karaoke recordings of songs and arias that could be found online, for free or at an affordable price at libraries, and books stores. The repertoire(sheet music + karaoke) of each individual student for voice lessons has to be approved by the voice instructor.
Lecture Topics Outline	Topics are tailored to the specific needs of the students on a weekly basis. Weekly attendance and vocal progress are tracked on a weekly basis.
Major Assignments Schedule	1. Weekly assignments. 2. Midterm may be a combination of written, oral, and performance. 3. Mandatory attendance: Two performances: Thursday April 28 at 1:30 PM and 7 PM. Venue TBA. 4. The final exam is either a private performance with the voice instructor or an open performance with juries. Your final presentation should include at least three (3) songs that must be memorized and ready to perform from the repertoire of commercial music assigned by the instructor during the semester.

Grading Scale	90 - 100=A    80 - 89=B    70 - 79=C     60 - 69=D    Below 59 = F
Determination of Final Grade	Weekly Lessons 55% - You will be given a grade for each weekly lesson. At the end of the semester, the combined average of these grades will comprise 55% of your semester grade. Mid-Term Performance, Written Exam, and Memorization of your repertoire for the semester will comprise 20% of your semester grade. Final Exam 25%
Course Policies
Instructor Policies
Attendance Policy	There are about 16 weeks every semester; students are expected to attend at least 14 lessons per semester. This is a credit course that is required to meet 4 hours per week - one hour with your applied faculty plus three additional hours, exclusive of course preparation by the student. Attendance is expected at all scheduled lessons. Missed lessons will be made up at the discretion of the instructor and will only be considered if prior notice of missing the lesson was given. More than 5 absences will make you fail this course.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
